Information:
Mark started flying R.C Helicopters back in August
1998. He started with a Shuttle Z and an old JR radio
that he purchased second hand out of a local newspaper.
That little second hand shuttle took him all the way
thru to forward flight before it met its end.
Since the shuttle he has owned and flown almost all
the 30, 46, 50, 60, 70, 80, and 90 class helicopters
on the market. He enjoyed trying all these machines
because it gave him first hand experience and he really
enjoyed the excitement of flying a new model. When
he first started flying, his goal was be able to perform
figure eights. He thought if he could just learn to
do figure eight circuits he would be happy and life
would be complete.
That was until he saw a local pilot named Bob Arkenberg.
Once he witnessed Bob perform back wards loops, inverted
flight, death spiral, etc... he knew right then and
there that 3-D flying was what he was looking for!
Since his first loops back in 1999, he has gone on
to push himself to learn other maneuvers such as death
spirals, inverted figure eight circuits both forward
and backwards, tail slides, funnels, tic-tocs, inverted
outside loops, back wards flight, etc... he still
continues to push myself and hone his skills to this
day always having his eye on the next level.
Compared to some, Mark has not been in the hobby for
long but he has seen major advancements in kit quality,
electronics quality, and most importantly price. When
he started, a basic plastics 30 size helicopter with
a BB gyro setup would cost well over $1200.00. Today
he is amazed to see top quality 90 size kits such
as the Predator for less than $750.00! Mark comments,
"It is a very exciting time for our hobby and
for Century Helicopters and I am honored to be a part
of the Century team as a 'Dark Side' Team Pilot."
